Havana- The prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, director of the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), grieves today the death of Ivette Chauviré, the great legend of French classical dance in the twentieth century.

In a statement released by the BNC, Alonso recalled the friendship that linked Chauviré with Cuba and how that Parisian dancer accompanied her on important moments of her career related to France.

'It has left an artist and a teacher who decisively influenced the young dancers of several generations'.

Her name will be mentioned forever in the world of Ballet, concluded the creator of the BNC.

Chauviré died at age 99, leaving her mark in major halls in Europe and the United States.
