Strong, clear vocals are what characterize the performances of new Cuban group Renacer, First Prize and Popularity Award winners of the Voces A capella competition during the Les Voix Humaines (Human Voices) Festival.

During the singing event, organized by the Leo Brouwer Office, which took place from September through October 2015, the seven young vocalists performed a rendition of “Earth Song” by the late Michael Jackson.

With the award, the group was given the opportunity to record an album with record label Bis Music and produce a music video sponsored by the Asociación Hermanos Saíz, an organization which works with talented young Cubans across all spheres of the arts. The Prize also saw them perform alongside trova singer Silvio Rodríguez in his concert in the Havana municipality of 10 de Octubre, and they have since been contracted to perform at a cultural gala organized by the Música Popular company this May.

Registered on May 5, 2015, with the Cuban Music Institute and Adolfo Guzmán provincial marketing entity, the group’s defining feature is their vocals off set against various backing tracks.

Their repertory includes a variety of songs in English across genres such as jazz, blues, swing, and soul, among others. They also perform pop songs, ballads, traditional son pieces among various other national and international genres.
Their overall look and vocal skill make for a powerful combination, with each member contributing their own unique sound.

Music professors from the University of Texas in the United States judged the musical arrangement and vocal abilities of this exceptional and harmonious group composed of Fernando, Yaima, Leonardo, Yailín, Yoanny, Yordano and Beilis, who now face the challenge of raising their profile both in Cuba and abroad.
